FROM HEINRICH SCHLIEMANN TO INDIANA JONES (Indelible traces of times gone by)
The Sarcidano zone is a territory rich with beautiful scorci on Flumendosa which extend between the Campidano plain and the Barbagia mountains. All of our landscape is ideal for trekking: with the help of expert local guides and maps it is possible to have unforgettable outings. For example it is most interesting to explore the Giara of Gesturi. Moreover you should know that the forestry organisation of Sardinia has realized new road signs and indications, reopened old paths and improved safety, creating the basis for sustainable tourism and creating resting points for tourists, altogether making a considerable effort.
To give you some ideas the paths that I suggest you can have naturist/biology themes (monumental trees, observation points, protected species and botanical gardens), or, if you prefer anthropology, your walks can be connected to cultural elements of the Mediterranean: traditional occupations (coal miners, nomadic shepherds), architecture (rural churches, traditional country architecture) and rural zones. Following paths, both known or “secret” – whether you be an expert excursionist or merely curious – you can see for yourself that Sardinia is not only made up of coasts and beaches but also of valleys, hills and landscapes full of history, you will be possessed by the spirit of the island never to be freed. This island will reveal itself to you as a real continent characterized by different flora and fauna like the macchia mediterranea: bushes such as the cisto, mirto, corbezzolo, leccio and the lentisco. The territory is also home to a large number of animals such as the muflone (wild sheep), the fox, the royal eagle and numerous other wild birds.
If we go from Sarcidano to Barbagia, strangely enough the land that includes the highest peaks is not the most interesting area from the excursionist’s point of view. It is always lovely to reach the top of Gennargentu or stroll through the beautiful forests of Aritzo and Fonni, but the most lovely sights are in the area around Seui. For example you can have some wonderful outings on Mounts Tonneri and Perda Liana: in some parts it’s necessary to climb ( and so are to be considered as impegnative).
